Steven M. Quevedo began his career in corporate law at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. His practice included, as lead attorney, addressing Securities Act of 1933 and Securities and Exchange Act of 1934 issues for public and going-public companies, supervising mergers & acquisitions, executing debt and equity financing including IPOs, and oversight of information technology, trade secret, and intellectual property legal issues. To broaden his practice, he spent years litigating technology and general business issues, including trademark, service mark, trade secret, technology, medical device, and complex commercial litigation, including jury trial experience, in state and federal courts. Mr. Quevedo has practiced in the technology and intellectual property areas continuously for over thirty years.
Mr. Quevedo has developed a familiarity with a vast array of technologies, including cybersecurity technologies, device and application architecture, application software (across all platforms), medical treatment and diagnostic devices, bio-technologies, nuclear power systems, scientific instrumentation, communication and telecommunication technologies, data analytic systems (such as big data, business analytics, and AI systems), social media platforms, and composite and process technologies.
Mr. Quevedo has recently served as Chief Privacy Officer for a large public company and for various of its independent, operating subsidiaries. In this capacity, Mr. Quevedo is one the handful of attorneys or privacy professionals to have successfully implemented a Binding Corporate Rules system at a Fortune 500 company, and to have then updated that system to bring it into full compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This involved successfully prosecuting a Binding Corporate Rules application with lead regulator ICO in the UK, with secondary review by Spanish and Polish data protection authorities.
Mr. Quevedo has also provided legal and compliance leadership for the development, implementation, and oversight of complex international trade sanctions programs, IT contracts and procurement organizations, trade secret defense programs, and reporting hotlines systems.
Mr. Quevedo has a strong cross-functional background working with IT security, IT architecture, strategic data management, internal audit, corporate risk, corporate security, industrial hygiene and safety, HR compliance, and other impacted areas. Mr. Quevedo has extensive experience interacting closely with US and EU regulators on a wide variety of policy and regulatory issues, including successful regulatory audit defense and corporate investigations.
Mr. Quevedo is a regular presenter to the senior executive level, a comfortable and dynamic public speaker, and regularly drafts corporate and press communications.
